In the 21st century, the development of life sciences and artificial intelligence have become two essential measurements for a country's technological capacities.

Our Mission
Provide a World-Class Biotech Experience

Inspired by the different realms of life sciences, BioX's biotech curriculum will guide students in completing a Capstone Project based upon a topic of their choice. By using critical thinking skills, students will learn and apply various theories to expand their knowledge base. BioX provides aspiring teens with a once in a lifetime opportunity to engage in a world-class biotech experience.

The education background of BioX's planning team is incredible. The group encompasses students from Harvard University, Stanford University, University of Pennsylvania, University of California, Los Angeles, University of California, Berkley, and Imperial College, among many others. The depth of their knowledge, combined with their eagerness to teach, creates a dream team. BioX's preparation team will evaluate students' knowledge systems and personal abilities to tailor, customize, and create the best experience for all.

Introduction to Cognitive Neuroscience

认知神经科学入门

相较于传统生物学,认知神经科学,一个20世纪标志性的新兴研究门类,在近几十年引起了学者们的广泛关注。它专门研究神经系统的结构、功能、发育、演化、生理、药理及病理,旨在揭示人脑及中枢神经的工作机制,以探索生命心智的起源、过程和活动。心智是脑和神经的功能,而脑与心智之间的桥梁就是认知。随着计算机X射线断层摄影(CT)、功能性核磁共振成像(fMRl)等多种技术广泛用于研究,脑和神经科学的发展也在其内部孵化出许多交叉学科,包括认知心理学,神经语言学,脑进化等。本课程旨在引领学员探索这一新兴学科及其广泛潜能与应用,包括神经生物及认知心理学基础知识,通过实验理解大脑与神经系统的解刨及感知觉加工等机制,并探讨当下热门尖端神经科学交叉性话题如AI、人机交互的理论与观点。

Computational Biology and Bioinformatics

计算生物与生物信息学

“生命“作为地球文明已知最复杂的活动机制,以其叹为观止的精密吸引着人类无限的探索热情。随着人类全基因组的建立与基因测序技术的飞速发展,大量数据源源不断地产生,使数据分析成为解锁人类基因组奥秘的关键。因此,一门由生物学、数据科学与计算机科学交叉形成的新兴学科——生物信息与计算学崭露头角。以数据为媒介,算法为手段,生物信息与计算学通过对基因序列的检索、对比与深度分析,揭示其中蕴含的生物学意义。从遗传突变定位到新药靶点筛选;从个体化医疗到健康大数据;生物信息与计算学正不断为各前沿领域提供新的研究思路与方法。TechX与中科院资深学者(或斯坦福学者)合作,搭建全新“生物+信息+计算”课程框架——通过讲授生物数据库建立、R语言数据分析及可视化相关工具,穿插并行序列对齐算法,隐形马尔科夫链,与GSEA-基因富集分析等算法的介绍,旨在让学生掌握数据挖掘和运用算法解决生物问题的能力。

Genome Editing & Molecular and Cellular Biology

基因编辑与分子细胞生物学

生物学家对“基因密码”核酸和“功能单位”蛋白质的研究从未停歇——融汇基因学、数学、生物化学、物理学与工程学,分子生物学旨在从微观层面理解这些生物大分子之间的结构、功能与作用关系。近十年来,革命性基因编辑工具 CRISPR-Cas9 的兴起使得精细化操控生物学现象变为可能,其低成本高效率的特点正在医疗、农业与环境等诸多领域大放异彩。2020 年,TechX 首创性地将基因编辑技术课程开放给更多年轻的生物爱好者。本课程的实验部分,学员将动手使用“基因剪刀” CRISPR-Cas9 对已知蛋白进行工程改造以赋予其新的结构或是物理性质。同时,本课程的讲座部分将系统地回顾从基础分子生物学到生物化学,并深入讲解到肿瘤免疫学与干细胞生物学等前沿交叉领域的工作进展。

Major Course: Students have the opportunity to pick a subject to focus in-depth on for 12 days. The materials covered would vary from basic foundations to advanced theories and seminars.

Courses focused on implementations of theories, biology experiments, and Capstone Projects will complement the chosen major course.

X-Seminar

By diving into descriptions of diseases in 20th-century western literature, students analyze the influence of biology through societal and historical lenses. By implementing the Harkness method, students will discuss the moral implications of future biotech developments (e.g., cloning and stem cell treatment).

ShanghaiTech University College of Life Sciences and Technology

BioX 2020 will be hosted at ShanghaiTech University's College of Life Sciences and Technology. The college is situated in China's "Biopharma valley", Zhangjiang Hi-tech Park, where R.D centers of multinational pharmaceutical and biotech companies flourish. Using Zhangjiang's immense research powers and lively pharmaceutical environment, BioX will collaborate with the college the explore the integration of education, research, and transformation. BioX aims to nourish the future scientists of our generation to achieve success in the life sciences.

ShanghaiTech University's Life Science and Technology College houses laboratories that are more than 10 thousand square meters in area with apparatus worth more than 1.82 billion in total (there are 34 devices worth more than 1 million individually). The established molecular and cell biology platform, imaging platform, and omics analysis platform are equipped with biological macromolecular interaction analysis system, imaging analysis flow cytometry, light film imaging microscope, transmission electron microscope, quadrupole tandem time-of-flight mass spectrometer, linear ion traps combined with orbitrap XL mass spectrometers and more than 40 different advanced instruments. These devices provide robust technical support services for the development of biology.
